Connor Kohls has been the Columbus Grove head varsity basketball coach for one year. He is married to his wife, Melany, and they have two kids, Decker and Sawyer. Throughout his coaching career at Columbus Grove Kohls has coached fifth grade, freshman, and  junior varsity. Kohls is a CGHS alumni, where played basketball and football. After high school, he played basketball at Heidelberg University and got a degree in middle school education at OSU-Lima. His goal for his team is to compete night in and night out, and play their best basketball and the end of the season to make a tournament run. His advice would be to “Compete in everything that you do, whether that be school, sports, music, video games, etc. Always strive to be the best possible version of yourself” You can contact Coach Kohls at cg_kohls@cg.noacsc.org

Brian Schroeder has been the varsity girls basketball coach for 17 years. He has been married to his wife, Amy, for 18 years, and they have four children. In his coaching career, his teams have been PCL Champs, NWC Champs, Sectional Champs, and District Champs, Regional Champs and a State Final appearance . In high school, Schroeder played football, cross country, and basketball. He then attended The Ohio State University and got his bachelor’s of science in mathematics and his master’s in education. Later, he got his principal licensure from the University of Findlay. In addition to coaching basketball, Schroeder is a math teacher at Columbus Grove. His goals are to teach life lessons such as working hard, handling adversity, and being a good teammate to maximize the potential of his team. His advice would be to “find the value in everyone and try to make someone’s life better each day.”

Brayden Sautter has been the head varsity baseball coach for two years. In 2021, his team won the program’s first tournament game since 2014. In high school, Sautter played varsity baseball and basketball for all four years. He then attended Bluffton University, where he played one year of college baseball. He received his Bachelor’s degree in sports management, while minoring in coaching, business administration, and economics. He is currently in his last semester at Bowling Green, where he is getting his M. Ed. in sports administration. In addition to coaching baseball, Sautter is a graduate assistant at the Perry Field House at BGSU and an OHSAA varsity basketball official. One of his goals this season is to win 16 or more games and a sectional title. He wants his players to better their performance, but also themselves, leaving a positive impact on society. As for the program, Sautter wants it to become a model of consistency that other teams will want to emulate. His advice would be to “cherish every day and every game like it could be your last,” and “don’t let the fear of failure prevent you from trying.” You can contact Coach Sautter at saubma3@gmail.com.

Terry Schnipke – Boys Varsity Cross Country

Terry Schnipke has been the boys varsity cross country coach for 17 years.  In his career, he has had immense success, coaching state competitors and record-breaking teams. During the 2021 season, the boys finished in fourth place at the state meet. In high school, Schnipke played basketball, baseball, and was a state cross country runner. He attended Bowling Green State University, where he got his bachelor’s degree in comprehensive communications. He then got his master’s in education at Bluffton University. In addition to coaching cross country, Schnipke works at Columbus Grove Schools as an English teacher and the athletic director. His goal for his team is to be state champions. His advice would be to 1) set goals 2) work hard and be intentional about how you work 3) don’t let setbacks define you, but instead let them motivate you 4) don’t date high maintenance girls 5) eat your vegetables. He believes “long walks on the beach are overrated. Short bursts of sprints in the sand will be a lot more beneficial.”

Amy Young is the new varsity volleyball coach. She has been married to her husband, Joe, for nine years, and they have two kids, Brynne and Ethan. She enjoys being active, around friends and family, and involved within the CG community. She is a CGHS alumni, where she played volleyball, basketball, and track. She also played three years of club volleyball. She graduated from Rhodes State College with an associates of applied science and a physical therapy assistant license. In 2020, she graduated from Western Governors University with a Bachelor’s in Business; Healthcare Management. In addition to coaching, Young is a Clinical Compliance Specialist for HCF Management, Inc. As a first year coach, her goal is to challenge her athletes both mentally and physically, while creating a culture that thrives on good work ethic, honesty and respect. Andy Schafer has been the Columbus Grove head varsity football coach for thirteen years. He is married to his wife, Amy, and they have five children. In his coaching career, his teams have won five league titles and four regional championships. Schafer attended high school at Cory-Rawson, where he played football, basketball, and track. After high school, he played football for one year at Taylor University. At Bowling Green State University, he got his bachelor’s degree in business/marketing/technology education. In addition to coaching football, Schafer is the business teacher at Columbus Grove. His goals for his team are to continue their streak from the past few seasons of winning the NWC, and extend their success in the playoffs. Abbie Norton is the new head coach of the girl’s track team. Norton is a CGHS alumni, where she ran track, played volleyball, and basketball. After high school, she ran track at West Virginia University, where she got her Bachelor’s degree. Then, she ran track at Indiana University, where she got her Master’s degree. Previously, she was the assistant coach to Tim Staley at Columbus Grove and the assistant track and field/cross country coach at Indiana University. In addition to coaching, Norton is the health and fitness teacher at Columbus Grove. Her goal for her team is to carry on the long time success that Grove has achieved in track and field, and instill a sense of confidence in her athletes. Jason Jay has been the girls varsity cross country coach for 15 years. In his career, he has had immense success, coaching state competitors and record-breaking teams. Jay attended high school at Lima Bath, where he ran cross country and track. Today, he works at Proctor and Gamble and continues to run everything from 5k’s to marathons. He is also the distance track coach for CG. Jay’s goal is to build a lasting running culture at Columbus Grove and instill within these athletes a work ethic, a goal-driven mindset, and confidence that can be used in all aspects of their current and adult lives. His advice would be to “never underestimate yourself,” and “set goals that are difficult, yet achievable, and update those goals as each is met to always be challenging yourself to improve.” You can contact Coach Jay at 419-348-6316.

Travis Gallmeier has been the varsity golf coach for 14 years and the varsity softball coach for nine years. He is married to his wife, Kristy, for 16 years, and they have three daughters. In his career as a golf coach, his teams have qualified for districts as a team and individually. In softball, his teams have been PCL champs, Sectional Champs, and District Runners Up. Gallmeier got his Bachelor’s of Science in grades 4-9 math and social studies and his Masters in education. In addition to coaching, Gallmeier is the fourth grade math teacher at Columbus Grove. His goals for his golf team are to win their first PCL title and their first NWC title since the early 90’s. His goals for his softball team are to continue their success in the PCL, improve their NWC finish, and win their first conference title. Traci Kohls has been the varsity cheer advisor since 2008. Her squad does not compete, but the cheerleaders work on sidelines and dances for months to cheer the football and basketball teams on to victory. In high school, she was a cheerleader and a gymnast. Kohls graduated college with an associates degree in child development, and she now has 28 years of experience as a social worker. Her goal is to teach her athletes life lessons by guiding them and giving them opportunities to grow, learn, and mature into young adults. Her advice would be the quote: “A little consideration, a little thought for others, makes all the difference.”
