Connor Kohls – Boys Varsity Basketball
Connor Kohls has been the Columbus Grove head Varsity Basketball Coach for two years. He is married to his wife, Melany and they have two kids. Throughout his coaching career at Columbus Grove, Kohls has coached 5th Grade, Freshmen and Junior Varsity. Kohls is a CGHS alumni, where he played basketball and football. After high school, he played basketball at Heidelberg University and got a degree in Middle School Education at OSU-Lima. His goal for his team is to compete night in and night out, and play their best basketball at the end of the season to make a tournament run. His advice would be to “Compete in everything that you do, whether that be school, sports, music, video games, etc. Always strive to be the best possible version of yourself”. Brian Schroeder – Girls Varsity Basketball
Brian Schroeder has been the varsity girls basketball coach for 17 years. He has been married to his wife, Amy, for 18 years, and they have four children. In his coaching career, his teams have been PCL Champs, NWC Champs, Sectional Champs, and District Champs, Regional Champs and a State Final appearance . In high school, Schroeder played football, cross country, and basketball. He then attended The Ohio State University and got his bachelor’s of science in mathematics and his master’s in education. Later, he got his principal licensure from the University of Findlay. In addition to coaching basketball, Schroeder is a math teacher at Columbus Grove. His goals are to teach life lessons such as working hard, handling adversity, and being a good teammate to maximize the potential of his team. His advice would be to “find the value in everyone and try to make someone’s life better each day.” Contact
Brayden Sautter – Varsity Baseball
Brayden Sautter has been the head varsity baseball coach for two years. In 2021, his team won the program’s first tournament game since 2014. In high school, Sautter played varsity baseball and basketball for all four years. He then attended Bluffton University, where he played one year of college baseball. He received his Bachelor’s degree in sports management, while minoring in coaching, business administration, and economics. He is currently in his last semester at Bowling Green, where he is getting his M. Ed. in sports administration. In addition to coaching baseball, Sautter is a graduate assistant at the Perry Field House at BGSU and an OHSAA varsity basketball official. One of his goals this season is to win 16 or more games and a sectional title. He wants his players to better their performance, but also themselves, leaving a positive impact on society. As for the program, Sautter wants it to become a model of consistency that other teams will want to emulate. Terry Schnipke – Boys Varsity Cross Country
Terry Schnipke is in his 20th season coaching boys’ cross country at Columbus Grove, where he’s led 10 teams to the state meet and nine to top-10 finishes, including the 2023 Division 3 State Championship. Beginning his coaching career with the girls’ team in 2005—the first in school history to reach state—he’s been honored as NWC Coach of the Year 10 times, Northwest District Coach of the Year 3 times, and was nominated for State Coach of the Year in 2023. A former multi-sport athlete and state cross country runner, Schnipke earned his degree from Bowling Green State University and his master’s from Bluffton University. Since joining Columbus Grove in 1994, he’s taught English and Speech, coached several sports, founded the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and has served as athletic director since 2008, earning NWOIAAA Athletic Director of the Year in 2020. Guided by his faith in Jesus Christ, Schnipke strives to build champions and better men, reminding his athletes to set goals, work hard, learn from setbacks, and eat their vegetables. Amy Young – Varsity Volleyball Coach
Amy Young has been the head volleyball coach at CGHS since 2022. She has been married to her husband Joe since 2013 and they have two kids, Brynne and Ethan, and a doodle named Oliver. She enjoys being active, around friends and family, and involved within the CG community. She is a CGHS graduate, where she played volleyball, basketball, and track. Following high school she attended Rhodes State College, graduating with an Associates in Applied Science and a Physical Therapy Assistant license, and went on to obtain her Bachelor’s in Business; Healthcare Management from Western Governors University. In addition to coaching, Young is a Clinical Compliance Specialist for HCF Management, Inc. As a head coach she strives to help her athlete's progress in all areas of life by challenging them both mentally and physically, while creating a team culture that thrives on good work ethic, honesty and respect. Alex Hoeffel – Varsity Girls Soccer
The 25-26 soccer season is my first year as head coach at Columbus Grove. I was the assistant coach during the 23-24 soccer season. In my first year this year, the team went to regionals and won the PCL. In highschool, I played soccer and basketball. I played club soccer for 7 years. I went to college at Ohio Northern University. I earned a bachelors of science. I majored in early childhood education and got a dual license to also teach primary intervention. I am currently teaching at Oakwood Elementary School in a cross-categorical unit. My goal for my athletes is to develop their soccer skills while also demonstrating teamwork and discipline. I want each athlete to find a love for the game of soccer and confidence within themselves. Contact
Chris Grothaus – Varsity Boys Track
I have been the Varsity boys track coach for 21 years. I have also coached football and basketball in my 36 year tenure here at Columbus Grove. I have been married to my wife Teri for 33 years and we have 5 children and 4 grandchildren. I graduated from Delphos Jefferson High School and played football, basketball and track. I attended The Defiance College and played basketball and ran track as well. My boys track teams have won numerous PCL and NWC titles as well as being Regional Champions 5 times and State Runner-Up twice. Coaching High School athletes has provided me with the opportunity to prepare these young men to find ways to be successful in life. Discipline, hard work and trust is not only a vital component for our track program but also necessary for life after school. When coaching my high school athletes I like to abide by the verse in Proverbs 22:15. “Young people are prone to foolishness and fads; the cure comes through tough minded discipline.” Contact

Andy Schafer – Varsity Football
Andy Schafer has been the Columbus Grove head varsity football coach for thirteen years. He is married to his wife, Amy, and they have five children. In his coaching career, his teams have won five league titles and four regional championships. Schafer attended high school at Cory-Rawson, where he played football, basketball, and track. After high school, he played football for one year at Taylor University. At Bowling Green State University, he got his bachelor’s degree in business/marketing/technology education. In addition to coaching football, Schafer is the business teacher at Columbus Grove. His goals for his team are to continue their streak from the past few seasons of winning the NWC, and extend their success in the playoffs. Abbie Norton – Girls Varsity Track
Abbie Norton took over the track and field program during the 21-22 school year. Norton is a CGHS alumni, where she ran track, played volleyball, and basketball. After high school, she ran track at West Virginia University, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree. Then, she ran track at Indiana University, where she earned her Master’s degree. Norton competed in track and field professionally for 4 years. Previously she was the assistant coach to Tim Staley at Columbus Grove and the assistant track and field/cross country coach at Indiana University. In addition to coaching, Norton is the health and physical education teacher at Columbus Grove. Her goal for her team is to carry on the long time success that Grove has achieved in track and field, and instill a sense of confidence in her athletes. Kelly Martz – Girls Varsity Cross Country
Kelly Martz has been the girls varsity coach for 1 year and assistant for 2 years. She has coached athletes to personal bests and a Northwest Conference Championship. She has also coached shot put and discus for the Bulldog track team for 8 years, and has been a track/cross country official for 2 years. Coach Martz teaches 4th grade at Columbus Grove Elementary. She has run everything from 5k's to marathons. goal is to help lead others to a more healthy lifestyle through exercise, nutrition, and meaningful connections with others. Travis Gallmeier – Varsity Golf
Travis Gallmeier has been the varsity golf coach for 14 years and the varsity softball coach for nine years. He is married to his wife, Kristy, for 16 years, and they have three daughters. In his career as a golf coach, his teams have qualified for districts as a team and individually. In softball, his teams have been PCL champs, Sectional Champs, and District Runners Up. Gallmeier got his Bachelor’s of Science in grades 4-9 math and social studies and his Masters in education. In addition to coaching, Gallmeier is the fourth grade math teacher at Columbus Grove. His goals for his golf team are to win their first PCL title and their first NWC title since the early 90’s. His goals for his softball team are to continue their success in the PCL, improve their NWC finish, and win their first conference title. Traci Kohls – Varsity Basketball Cheerleading Coach
Traci Kohls has been the varsity cheer advisor since 2008. Her squad does not compete, but the cheerleaders work on sidelines and dances for months to cheer the football and basketball teams on to victory. In high school, she was a cheerleader and a gymnast. Kohls graduated college with an associates degree in child development, and she now has 28 years of experience as a social worker. Her goal is to teach her athletes life lessons by guiding them and giving them opportunities to grow, learn, and mature into young adults. Her advice would be the quote: “A little consideration, a little thought for others, makes all the difference.”

Bryan Troyer – Varsity Softball
Bryan Troyer took over the softball program in the 2025 season. Troyer is a CGHS alumni that participated in Football, Basketball, and Track. After graduating he attended the University of Findlay where he competed in track and field as well as JV basketball for one season. He is currently a teacher at Ft. Jennings High School where he teaches Shop classes and Math. He is married to his wife, Mindy and they have two sons Carter and Cayden. His softball coaching career started at CGHS where for 5 years he was a Varsity Assistant Coach under Jim Wagner when the program was just getting started. He then took a break from coaching and started and eventually sold a local lawn care business. He returned to coaching at Pandora-Gilboa as the Head Varsity Coach for 2 seasons before returning to CGHS. Coach Troyer likes to instill in his teams that attitude and effort define who they are whether it's on the field or in life.
